Anthropometric scales for the pedagogical control of talents in Cuban school volleyball (13-15 years, women’s)

Introduction: Anthropometric indicators are variables to consider in the process of scouting and selecting athletes for volleyball. Establishing performance scales is essential for making effective pedagogical orientation decisions. Objective: To establish a scale of anthropometric performance for the pedagogical control of sports talent in Cuban school volleyball (13-15 years old, women’s). Methods: This is descriptive/explanatory research, studying the population of players from each team participating in the National High-Performance School Games (JENAR 2024, 60th Edition), school category (13-15 years old), female gender (Teams: N=9; Players: N=88). Percentiles are applied to establish the scales, emphasizing the 90th and 80th percentiles, processing anthropometric indicators used by the Cuban Volleyball Federation (FCV) such as height, and reach with one and two hands. Results: The best anthropometric indicators are established at the 90th percentile (14-15 years old), with the best athletes being those with a height of ≥183 cm, a reach of ≥237 cm with one hand, and a reach of ≥234.1 cm with both hands, classified as Immediate Prospect (IP). For the 13-year-old group, the scale is established from the 80th percentile, classifying as IP those with a height of ≥179 cm, a reach of ≥235 cm with one hand, and a reach of ≥232 cm with both hands. Conclusions: Anthropometric performance scales are established, methodologically identifying IP volleyball players in the 13-15 years old female categories. These scales serve as a pedagogical basis for making decisions related to the control of specific sports training in school volleyball.
