Success Perception and Its Influence on Sports Motivation: Study in University Students from Ecuador
Keywords:
Success perception; Sports motivation; University students; Physical activity; Task orientation; Ego orientationAbstract
This study analyzes the relationship between success perception and sports motivation in university students in Ecuador. It is based on the premise that how students perceive success in sports influences their motivation levels and commitment to physical activity. Theoretical background highlights the importance of task orientation and ego orientation in sports motivation. A quantitative approach with a correlational and cross-sectional design was used. The sample consisted of university students who completed validated instruments to measure the study variables. The results indicate that students who perceive success as personal improvement and effort show higher intrinsic motivation, while those who associate success with external recognition present more extrinsic motivation. Gender differences in success perception and sports motivation were identified. The findings suggest the need to develop strategies that promote self-determined motivation and adherence to physical activity in the university context.
