Sports infrastructures and the practice of physical activity. The case of the National Stadium of Zimpeto

The main goal of this research is to analyse the influence of the National Stadium of Zimpeto (ENZ) in the promotion of physical activity and sports practice into the population residing in the surrounding neighbourhoods. However, it´s already known that the development of a society depends on its quality of life and well-being, and one of the factors in promoting it, is the practice of physical and sports activities. For this purpose, sports infrastructures are essential, which is why several governments have defined policies for the provision of places for physical and sports activities. In Mozambique, after independence, the ENZ was built, but studies addressing its influence in promoting physical activity and sports habits among surrounding residents are scarce. It is in this regard that with a margin of error of 0.05%, we randomly selected 352 participants of both sexes; aged between 18 and 60 years old, living in the surrounding neighbourhoods in order to gather their perception about the role of ENZ. For the data collect, an ad hoc survey was applied; whose analysis followed the descriptive statistics. The results revealed a significant number of practitioners of physical activity and sports, the majority who live near the facility suggests a positive and significant influence on the quality of life of the population living in the neighboring neighborhoods. With these results it can be concluded that the ENZ has a positive impact on the promotion of habits of physical activity and sports of the population living in the surrounding neighborhoods.
