The formation of the sportsmen as referees and judges

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to reflect on the formation of the sportsmen as referees and judges, because they should be for their preparations the fundamental source of that process in the future. However, in the empiric inquiries carried out they were not enough direct antecedent studies in that sense. This work was developed as part of the investigation project: “Management toward the quality of the Sport Arbitration in the XXI Century”, based on the results of the project “Toward a Theory of the Sport Arbitration”. Its methodology consisted on the gathering, prosecution and analysis of the information offered by the selected sample (sportsmen, coaches, managers, referees and judges), by means of the survey and the checking of documents. Among the most interesting results, it was confirmed the non-existence of an institutional intension to take advantage of that force and to go reducing in the future the contradiction given among the origin of an important quantity of judges of Cuban referees and the level of their sport experience. As conclusions, arguments are contributed about the necessity of fomenting the interest and the sportsmen's motivation to become referees and judges, in an organized and planned process, taking advantage of the spaces of the sportsman's preparation, as well as the requirements and demands for the referees and judges selection.
