Indicators to improve the sports selection process speed specialty-hurdles school category

Abstract

There are deficiencies in basic indicators to prepare and evaluate the physical-technical component in speed-hurdle athletes in the Comprehensive Program for Athletics Athletes in the 13 and 14 year-old category, in accordance with the new modifications of the competitive system guided by the National Athletics Federation (FNA). With this research, new indicators are provided that contribute to the improvement of the preparation of these components, to the selection process of talents in this age group for this specialty of Athletics, favoring the increase in quality and sports results, also minimizing the debt in the promotion of potential young speed-hurdle talents to high performance centers for the province of Santiago de Cuba. The research methods of theoretical level, analysis-synthesis of empirical level, observation, interview and descriptive statistics were used to support the proposal, and to process the data obtained. This study is part of the Key Result Area of the National Sports Directorate of interest to the National Athletics Commission, which consists of delving into the development of instruments, tools and ways to determine a possible talent in this sport. Similar studies have been developed in 2008, 2013 and more recently in 2022 by the University of Granma, related to technical, biomedical and talent detection indicators in the long distance area respectively. This is not the case for the physical-technical and family components of the specialty addressed in this study.
