Storytelling to develop communication skills in General Basic Education students

The study aimed to demonstrate the effect of a storytelling program on the development of communication skills in seventh-grade General Basic Education students, integrating physical activity as a cross-cutting axis. A quantitative approach was adopted, with a quasi-experimental design featuring pre-test and post-test, and a sample of 48 students divided into a control group (n=24) and an experimental group (n=24). Given the absence of normality, the Mann-Whitney U test and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test were applied. Pre-test results showed no significant differences between groups (U=208.000; p=0.098), while post-test results revealed significant differences in favor of the experimental group (U=0.000; Z=-5.947; p<0.001), with similarly significant improvements in the linguistic, sociolinguistic, discursive, and strategic dimensions (p<0.001). It is concluded that storytelling, articulated with physical-sports activities, comprehensively strengthens communication skills and fosters more dynamic and participatory learning.
