Abstract

The National Institute of Sports Medicine in Cuba ensures that athletes have the necessary assistance and advice in training. In turn, the prestigious institution has experienced specialists in the study and treatment of size, shape, proportion, composition, maturation and main functions of the human being as a sports system. However, different authors find significant differences within the body composition in players who fulfill different functions on the field of play, which makes Baseball a difficult sport to study from a kinanthropometric point of view. Hence, this research was carried out

as a descriptive, longitudinal and retrospective study of the Villa Clara baseball players who made up the social category baseball teams, from the National Series 56 to 60. For its development, the objective was understood to be: to determine the behavior of the indicators of Body Composition and Somatotype. The statistical analysis consisted of determining the mean and standard deviation. As a result, significant statistical differences were found in the percentages of body fat, kilograms of active body mass and active substance index. The worst indicators were recorded in the National Series (57); and the best in the National Series (59). The active body substance index was lower than other Cuban and foreign selections and the body fat percentages were higher. The teams presented an endo-mesomorphic somatotype. The results obtained in some of these variables differ from those reported at the national and international level.
