Endurance in Single Scull Rowers Aged 18–20 Through a Structured Program

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a structured endurance program on the physical and technical performance of single scull rowers aged 18–20, starting from an initially negative diagnosis. In the first phase, significant deficiencies were identified in aerobic endurance, strength-endurance, rowing technique, response to fatigue, and group cohesion, using an observation guide and physical tests (pretest). A quasi-experimental design was then implemented with two groups (experimental and control, n=10 each). The experimental group underwent an 8-week intervention including aerobic training, technical work, strength-endurance exercises, and group dynamics, while the control group continued with their usual training. Posttest results showed statistically significant improvements in the experimental group in quantitative variables (p < .001), with large effect sizes (ηp² > 0.50), particularly in ergometer distance (+618 m on average), bench press repetitions (+7.1), and squats (+8.1). Qualitatively, improvements were observed in rowing technique, motivation, response to fatigue, and cohesion with the coach. The study concludes that the structured program was highly effective in enhancing the physical and psychosocial performance of the rowers, and its implementation is recommended in medium-term training plans.
