Psychomotor development through mini-volleyball in primary education students
Keywords:
Psychomotricity, Mini-Volleyball, Physical Education, Primary EducationAbstract
Psychomotricity in primary education is essential for the comprehensive development of students, as it connects motor, cognitive, emotional, and social domains. Adapted sports such as Mini-Volleyball can have positive effects that enhance motor skills, making it important to assess their scope and limitations for curricular integration. The aim of this study was to analyse the effects of Mini-Volleyball on the psychomotricity of primary school students. A quasi-experimental design was conducted with a group of 68 students (aged 7–8 years). The intervention consisted of a 12-week Mini-Volleyball programme, with two 45-minute sessions per week, organised in progressive phases. The Vítor da Fonseca Psychomotor Battery (BPM) was applied to assess seven dimensions of psychomotor development in pre- and post-test conditions. Following the Mini-Volleyball intervention, a significant improvement was observed across all psychomotor dimensions. Initial values ranged between 2.03 and 2.14, while final scores varied from 2.92 to 3.08, representing an average increase of ±1 point. In each dimension,
the Wilcoxon test revealed statistically significant differences (p<0.001). Most participants demonstrated positive ranks, including improvements in laterality, balance, tonicity, body awareness, and praxis. Mini-Volleyball is thus confirmed as an effective pedagogical tool to stimulate psychomotricity in primary education students
