Abstract

Dance constitutes a bodily and cultural expression that integrates motor, cognitive, and socio-emotional dimensions, positioning it as a relevant pedagogical content within school Physical Education. In recent years, scientific interest has increased in analyzing its effects on different aspects of students’ development. In this context, the aim of this systematic review was to analyze the scientific evidence on the influence of dance on learning, motor development, and students’ holistic education within the context of school Physical Education. The guidelines of the PRISMA 2020 protocol were followed, conducting searches in the Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, Scielo, and Dialnet databases. Studies published between 2021 and 2026 in Spanish, English, and Portuguese were included, resulting in the selection of 25 empirical studies and reviews that met the eligibility criteria. The results indicate that the systematic practice of dance contributes to the development of executive functions such as working memory, attention, and cognitive flexibility, while also promoting creativity and learning processes. In the motor domain, improvements were reported in coordination, balance, agility, strength, endurance, and postural control. Likewise, in the socio-emotional dimension, increases were observed in self-esteem, self-concept, social skills, emotional intelligence, and psychological well-being, along with reductions in anxiety and stress. In conclusion, dance represents a pedagogical tool that simultaneously promotes learning, motor development, and students’ holistic education.
